Crocheted bottlecap trivet
Created By: Shannon Lea Egan
Craft: crochet
Materials: 100% cotton yarn. I figure this is the most durable for the kitchen, and should wash easily.
Pattern Source: lionbrand: Crochet trivet
I love this pattern because it's unique, it's portable, and it's a terrific gift giver. People LOVE these! I do use cotton yarn, and I've done several variations on the shape.
I have modified the pattern as follows:
I find each little unit finishes MUCH better if you add another round of single crochet in back loop only before you tuck in the cap. It creates a perfect ridge for stitching. I also go around the edge with a row of single crochet when it's stitched together to finish it off nicely.
I've made this one in the car on a road trip. I use three crochet hooks to draw up the loops (MUCH MUCH easier than trying to attack it with DPNs) and while I'm crocheting I keep the other two hooks, the yarn needle, and the scissors tucked into the bottom of my denim capris. We travelled & made several stops so it was great to be able to make a unit and then tuck it away for later.
