The mitten with the fat thumb was done according to directions. Several comments on the pattern said it needed extra rows for the thumb. The second mitten, I put thumb stitches on a string and knitted it later because I thought the original pattern did not separate the palm from the thumb enough. I did a lot of measuring against my hand as I went.
I am a very loose knitter, so I only cast on 25 st. I used size 5 needles for the ribbing and 6 for the rest. It made for a firm textured mitten.
