Crochet Block: Textured Stripes

This block is just a starting point. The two stitch patterns in this block could be worked as
blocks in themselves or worked in contrasting colors to link with other blocks in the afghan. The
spikes or elongated single crochet stitches could also be beaded to add even more texture.
Foundation chain: Ch 28.
Row 1 (right side): insert the hookinto the 3rd ch from the hook, work 1sc this completes the
first 2 sts. 1sc into each ch to the end -- 27 sts.Turn.
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as 1sc), 1sc into each st to the end of the row, work the last sc into
the bottom of the beg-ch. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 2 (counts as 1sc), 1sc into each of the next 2 sts, *1sc into the foundation ch of the
corresponding st 2 rows down, 1sc into each of the next 3 sts, rep from * 5 more times, work the
last sc into the bottom of the beg-ch. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 2 (counts as 1sc), 1sc into each st to the end of the row, work the last sc into
the bottom of the beg-ch. Turn.
Row 5: Rep row 4.
Row 6: Ch 2 (counts as 1sc), 1sc into each of the next 2 sts, *1sc into the base of the
corresponding st 2 rows down, 1sc into each of the next 3 sts, rep from * 5 more times, work the
last sc into the bottom of the beg-ch.
Turn.
Rep rows 4–6, twice more.
Row 13: Ch 2 (counts as 1sc), 1scinto each st to the end of the row, work the last sc into
the bottom of the beg-ch. Turn.
Row 14: Ch 2 (counts as 1dc), 1dcinto each st to the end of the row, work the last dc into
the bottom of the beg-ch. Turn.\
Row 15: Ch 2 (counts as 1dc), 1dc into each of the next 2 sts, *1tr fp around the post of the
next st, 1dc into each of the next 3 sts, rep from * 5 more times, work the last dc into the top of
the beg-ch.Turn.
Row 16: Rep row 14.
Row 17: Ch 2 (counts as 1dc), 1dc into each of the next 4 sts, *1tr fp around the post of the
next st, 1dc into each of the next 3 sts, rep from * 4 more times, 1dc into each of the next 2 sts,
work the last dc into the top of the beg-ch. Turn.
Row 18: Rep row 14.
Row 19: Rep row 15.
Row 20: Rep row 14.
Rep rows 4–6, 4 more times.
Row 33: Rep row 14.
Fasten off yarn.
