School’s almost back in session! That means that sports games, pep rallies, and other fun after-school activities are fast approaching. Show your spirit by knitting or crocheting accessories in your school colors! Here are just a few of the most popular school colors in three of our favorite fast-finish, easy care yarns: Vanna’s Choice, Wool-Ease, and Hometown USA.

Want ideas on how to combine your school colors? Stripes are always in style for hats and scarves. You can also knit or crochet a project in a solid color, then use your contrasting shade to duplicate stitch the initials of you or your school. For a tweedy effect, hold both shades together (like in our Sumptuous Tweed Scarf).

  • Appalachian State black and gold!  It gets cold in Boone, NC, so we need lots of hats and scarves.  Someday I’ll have to crochet a nice, warm stadium blanket, too. 

  • I won’t be buying…. no Maroon…. my kids’ school colors are Maroon and White…. I’ve also seen the school stuff sold at Big Box Store in maroon, grey, and white.

    • We couldn’t list every school color, unfortunately, so we narrowed it down to the top 9. However, we do have plenty of maroon yarn shades in these yarns as well. I would recommend something like Hometown USA in Tampa Spice, Wool-Ease in Burgundy or Cranberry, or Vanna’s Choice in Cranberry.

    • that was my complaint also…….I get so tired of not being able to find the Maroon……..our school colors are treated like red-headed stepchildren….notice they didn’t fail to list LSU’s colors or Ole Miss

  • Orange and black for my daughter’s high school !!!!  Currently making a granny square blanket to use on those cold days sitting on the bleachers while she plays in the band!

  • You do not have a very good green for Michigan State Spartans.  I have used the ones you show, but they are not quite right.  Go GREEN Go White!

  • Scarlet and crimson are both used by many schools. Your scarlet does not look right, and there is nothing for crimson. You need far more choices in green too. Where is the forest green, like Michigan State? You don’t even cover all the NFL teams, I don’t see any teal for Miami Dolphins nor the deep purple for the Minnesota Vikings. Please enlarge your color choices.

    • Hi Pat, like Jess commented earlier in this thread, we couldn’t list every school or sports team color because of space constraints; however, we do have 50 colors in Hometown USA, 68 colors in Vanna’s Choice, and 51 colors in Wool-Ease (some of our most popular yarns for school and team colors)–as well as over 60 total yarn lines with over 800 shades–so you have many more options including forest greens, teals, various reds, and purples.

      Also, please keep in mind that colors don’t show up the same from computer monitor to computer monitor, if you’re looking for a particular color, the best way to see it is with color cards (with sample strands of each color of a yarn).
