On Trend: 6 Fun Knit & Crochet Animal Accessories for Kids

There are a few fashion trends happening in knitwear apparel and accessories as of late, and “animal-like” knitwear is one of them. It seems that everywhere I look, whether it be online, in stores, or at street vendor stations – there are accessories with animal faces or ears on them.  The animal scoodies (scarf and hoody combined) and animal hats appear to be the most popular; it’s hard to resist getting these items because they’re so cute.

Lucky for you, since you know how to knit or crochet, you can make your own!  Below, I’ve rounded up a few of our patterns for children that incorporate animal elements for “aww” worthy projects.  If you’re ambitious, maybe you could knit the Bunny Hat and Booties set just in time for Easter!

  • I do not like these hats. Our children deserve respect, and these hats are no fun, they are making silly clowns,

I have difficulties to describe it (I am not a native speaker), but I think we should love and respect the babies. Do you think they will love to see photos of them when they are grown up? I think they will be ashamed of themselves (even when they should be ashamed of the infamous knitters who dress them with stuff like this)

    • srsly?

      • I have a 23 year old daughter who begs me to knit fun hats – sheep are her favorite. We all need a happy, fun side!

    • ashamed? seriously? relax… it’s just a hat.

    • I’m so sorry you find these items disturbing, Connie. Children love to dress-up, make-believe, pretend, and be special. Such play helps develop an active, healthy imagination. As for any future embarrassment over photos taken, isn’t it more likely to warm the grown child’s heart to recall the one who made something so special “just for them”?

    • Connie, I think our children and grandchildren will grow up and be thrilled to see these adorable pictures of themselves in cute hats their loved ones made for them. I’ve made multiple things for my grandchildren. They look so cute in them!

  • I think they’re adorable

    • Me too!

  • We do not stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.

  • My Granddaughters are 2 years old and 10 years old… I’ve made them Cookie Monster and Dog-Dog hats… They LOVE them… The 10 year old wears hers to school every day and gets comments on how lucky she is to have those hats – they can’t be found in stores.. The 2 year old has a hard time choosing which to wear – wants to wear both at the same time… Hahaha I’m having fun making the hats and the Kids are enjoying wearing them… I’ve even had requests for Sock Monkey hats from Adults… 🙂
