Let's crochet a Sabrina Tunic ... announcing your 2015 Summer Crochet-Along with host Elena Ramshaw Hunt!

Several times a year we host a crochet- or knit-along, a virtual event in which knitters and crocheters come together here online to work on one pattern together, share their experiences, and to learn together. There’s no need to sign up! Simply follow along with the blog posts at your own pace as you crochet your project, and feel free to share your comments and/or photos as you progress. Want to learn more? Click here for our guide.

The Votes Are In!

Thank you for voting for our crochet-along! The winning pattern is ... the Sabrina Tunic!

Crochet-Along Next Steps

1. This week, download the pattern (click here for the pattern) and read it through so you have a sense of how the project is going to take shape. We'll be walking you through a different element each week, so don't worry if you see anything you're not familiar with!

2. Gather your materials. This pattern features the Lion Brand® yarn, Vanna's Glamour® in three colors, Onyx, Copper and Garnet. Lucky you, we're offering kits in each size for 20% off as a special treat!

Click here to view & order the kits at 20% off.

Want to substitute yarns? Learn more about substitution with this FAQ.

3. Introduce yourself below! Tell us who you are, where you're from, who you’re making this jacket for, and what you hope to learn!

Plus, if you're on Ravelry, click here to view and join our companion Ravelry group for the crochet-along.

So get your materials and join us back here in two weeks (July 2nd) to talk about gauge and starting the project.

About Elena Ramshaw Hunt:
I'm an avid crocheter and yarn-a-holic! My Grandmother taught me the art of crochet when I was 10 and as a young woman the bug really caught me. With 40 years of crochet experience, I have taught and shared my love of crochet to many people in my community and in 2013 I began Beatrice Ryan Designs (named after my grandmother) where I design free crochet patterns including my Amazing Grace Free Crochet Pattern Series that is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness.

I live in a small Northern California mountain community. I have 3 grown children and 2 beautiful Grandchildren! I work full-time as an Administrative Assistant for a Forest Products Company and I love to spend my time with my family, crocheting and gardening.

I've never done a CAL, nor have I made anything more complicated than a baby blanket. But I'm excited about the challenge! Supplies are ordered.

  • Kc Plomin

After being lucky enough to meet Shira this past week I am even happy to join this CAL. I ordered my yarn, same yarn but different colors.

  • Tammy Foster

I'm hoping to be able to do this; I have recently gotten out of the hospital and I will have to see if someone will take me to get the supplies. The sweater is lovely and I would like to make 4 for Christmas gifts!

  • kmo

I had already started this project & now am excited to follow along with all of you!

  • Sherry

Going to attempt this! Looks like fun!

  • Giovanangela

I am also joining this CAL. I did the Colorfully Modern Cardigan CAL in 2013 and it was a lot of fun. Everyone was so helpful. This tunic is really nice but I'll be making the sleeves longer. I ordered a larger size so I don't run out of yarn.

  • Cynthia Rose

Hi. I have also never tried this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I have to wait until next week to order my kit.

  • Pam Campbell

I'm Ghijsmom on Ravelry. I've mostly crocheted easy blankets and a couple of baby sweaters. I hope to learn to make an adult garment for my daughter. This pattern looks as though it will suit her, and I know she'll get a lot of use out of it.

  • Kim E. O'Connor

Elena, so happy for you and all of the others who will gain so much from your teaching. You go girl. Love and miss seeing you.

  • Ali Katt

This is going to be my first CAL and I am excited.I have never done a project with sleeves so this will be a great way to learn. Lately I've been doing amigurumi. This is different and looking forward to this project.

  • Lori S.

This is my first CAL, and I've never made any pattern beyond Easy or Beginner. I'm looking forward to the challenge, but know I'll need some help.

  • Nolanacleta

Hello Everyone! This will be my first CAL and my first big crochet project. I'm almost finished with the Glamour Jacket which was the 2015 Spring KAL for Lion Brand. That was quite an experience and the jacket is coming out great! Since I used the Onyx color for that project, I decided to change it up a bit for the tunic. I am using Grey Stone instead of the Onyx. I can't wait to get started! :-)

Looking forward to crocheting this sweater. This will be my first crochet sweater. I'm waiting for the kit to arrive. Hoping to learn some new techniques.

  • Kelly Andrews Walter

Before I order supplies, I have a quick question. I need a size 3x for myself. It looks like the pattern goes up 12 stitches for each increase in size. So since it only goes up to a 2x, would I just need to increase everything the same number of stitches to finish in a 3x? Thanks, love this sweater!

  • Maria

Hi! My name is Maria, and although I've never participated in a CAL project before, I am an avid reader of your website. I love this pattern and I'm excited to get started!

  • Emmari

    Looking forward to it! :)

  • Kristin

I'll be joining in Philadelphia! Any other Philly area CAL participants? I'm still kind of a beginner and haven't made anything like a sweater yet, so I hope I can keep up!

  • lanib

    Looks like a fun project!

  • Barbara Wojciechowski

I'm Barbara. Since the yarn is light weight and I live in SC, I'm,asking this for me.

  • Barbara Wojciechowski

Hi, y'all. This is my second CAL. I'm hoping this CAL will show me how to crochet something that fits properly. Since the yarn is lightweight and I live in South Carolina, I plan to make this for myself.

  • lauraimprovises

Just saying I'm here, giving this a try, and hoping that it fits when I'm done. I have only tried one other garment for me, and even though I thought I had checked gauge properly, it ended up way too large for me. The only other true garment I have made was a little sweater for a granddaughter, and it had a forgiving fit, plus she will grow.

  • Kathy Krantz

I've been wanting to graduate from throws and scarves to an actual garment piece, so I'm gonna try this! A little anxious, but I hope to get all the support I need here!

  • Pamela Lewis

I'm gonna try to finish this project for myself. Live in Missouri I think this will be perfect for fall. When will you be posting new instructions?

  • dianneu22

I've never done a CAL either, but I'm excited to try it once. Hope it works out as lovely as the pic.

  • Dawn

When is this going to start? I am going on a trip for 2 1/2 weeks in July, and don't want to be missing part of the project.

  • Anja Kimbro

Love this sweater and can't wait to get started. I hope I can finish it.

  • Quinn

I have a red-haired daughter named Sabrina, so I may need to do this!

  • Barbara H.

Supplies received and instructions read through. Bought enough supplies to make one for myself and each of my two daughters in different colors. Never done a CAL before and am eager to get started.

  • Amy

Finally remembered to order the yarn! Looking forward to this project.

  • irathabsewin

    Hello!
I'm late- but I'm excited about participating in my very first CAL. I just put in my order for the size small kit. And wondering if it still might be too big? I'm sure there will be a point I can decrease accordingly?

  • Lura Wingate Levin

Good morning, everyone. I just saw this and am intrigued. I don't have the yarn so it may take a few days for me to get started.

  • Nancy Lou

I have ordered my supplies. I replaced the black with a light golden off white color with the same yarn. I hope it turns out to be just as beautiful.

  • Elizabeth Lowance

I have done a crochet along once before and enjoyed the excitement of getting a new piece of the puzzle each time. I look forward to trying this one. I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
