How to Crochet A Floral Granny Square

How to crochet a Daisy granny square wiht Erica Jackofsky for Lion Brand yarn

Continuing on our floral granny square journey! This next square is approximately the same size as the Daisy Granny Square (when worked with the same yarn and hook), which means you can pair them together to create afghans or pillows.


Materials


The Granny Square Flower Block

With opal yarn, ch 4. Join with a slip st to form ring.

Rnd 1 – opal: ch 1, work 8 sc in ring. Join with a slip st in first sc – 8 sts

Rnd 2 – opal: ch 3 (counts as first dc), 4 dc in the same st, remove hook from loop and insert (front to back) through top of ch-3 and pick up dropped loop drawing through the ch-3 st, ch 2 (this is your first popcorn st), *work 5 dc in the next stitch. Remove your hook (careful not to pull out the last loop made) and insert through the first of the 5 dc made and back through the last loop you dropped. Draw the loop through and chain 2; rep from * another 6 times. Join with a slip st to the top of the first ch-3. Fasten off – 8 popcorn stitches.

Rnd 3 – ivy: Join yarn with a slip st to any ch space. Ch 4 (counts as first tc), 2 tc in same space, *ch 1, [3 tc, ch 1, 3 tc] in next ch space, ch 1, 3 tc in the next space; rep from * twice more, ch 1, [3 tc, ch 1, 3 tc] in last ch space, join with a slip st to beg ch-4. Fasten off – 36 tc

Rnd 4 – cream: Join yarn with a slip st to a corner ch space. Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), [2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in same space, *[ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch space] twice, ch 1, [3dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next corner space; rep from * twice more, [ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch space] twice, ch 1, slip stitch to top of beginning ch-2 – 16 dc clusters

Rnd 5 – cream: ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), work 1 dc in each st across edge including ch-1 sp, work [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in each corner ch-2 space, end by joining with a slip st to beginning of rnd ch – 76 dc

  • YO = yarn over

Stitch Guide

Popcorn Stitch – Work 5 dc in the specified stitch. Remove your hook (careful not to pull out the last loop made) and insert through the first of the 5 dc made and back through the last loop you dropped. Draw the loop through and chain 1.

  • Where can I get the pattern for the floral granny square.

  • I’m looking for a granny square to make an Afghan or throw. I love the look of this square. I don’t know the size of the square, therefore I cannot figure how many squares to make. I’d also love to know how much yardage of yarn I should purchase. My favorite yarn is Vanna’s Choice.

    • The square shown measures 6″ x 6″ and used 12 grams (26 yards) of worsted weight. The size and yardage will change depending on the yarn and hook used.
