Announcing... the Clement Canyon Poncho Crochet-Along!

CAL_Badge_2016 Each season we host a crochet- or knit-along, a virtual event in which knitters and crocheters come together here online to work on one pattern together, share their experiences, and to learn together. There’s no need to sign up! Simply follow along with the blog posts at your own pace as you crochet your project, and feel free to share your comments and/or photos as you progress.

CAL host Kristy Glass was so excited to work with new 24/7 Cotton, that she curated color kits just for this crochet-along! See below for kit options -- 20% off for a limited time only!

  4. The "Kristy" - Kristy's personal favorite hues of 24/7 Cotton! Includes Magenta, Jade, Camel, Ecru, and Denim

To get this crochet-along going, this week is about gathering your materials so that we can jump right starting next Wednesday, February 17. Remember, our crochet-alongs are designed for you to follow along at your own pace, so don't fret if you don't have your yarn just yet!

This colorful poncho is made with new 24/7 Cotton, a light, mercerized cotton yarn that's suitable for any project for any season. This worsted weight yarn comes in 24 colors, so the palette possibilities are endless!

Starting February 17th, our CAL host Kristy Glass will post her progress through the Clement Canyon Poncho project, with updates coming every Wednesday. You'll know it's a dedicated CAL blog post when you see our special badge in the upper right-hand corner of the post. Don't forget to join our Ravelry group for this CAL as well!

Introduce yourself in the comments below, and let us know what colors you'll be choosing -- let's get to crocheting!

I am Kristy Glass and I am so thrilled to be infiltrating the Lion Brand blog to lead you in the Clement Canyon Poncho Crochet-Along! Even though I learned to knit as a girl, my passion for fiber arts has escalated at a very steep rate these past several years.

I returned to knitting and began crocheting about 8 years ago after I suffered an unexpected health setback leaving me feeling completely out of control. Hand work was a healing salve for my body and soul as I suffered through a long healing process. Thankfully I continue to use knitting to aid meditation, solace and a feeling of accomplishment. I knit year round, despite weather changes, and I am highly anticipating us all knitting together on this project.

I have completed over 100 projects including scarves, cowls, hats, hand warmers, phone cozies, afghans, pillows, sweaters and yarn bombing. My most recent passion has been making sweaters and actually wearing what I make!

So excited for this CAL. This will be my first piece of clothing, so I'm a little nervous, but excited. I'm thinking I'm going to stick with the "original" colors. I just love the pretty greens. I'll be posting my progress pics on my blog. :)

  • Jmaka

I'll be joining the CAL, but I'd REALLY like the pattern for your sweater!

  • Julie

I am so excited! I did the free spirit topper KAL last time, and was so excited to see that the poncho won for the CAL!

  • Eva Coppersmith

Hi! I am new to crocheting since Oct. Love this hobby. I hope I can do this poncho justice. I love the look of it. I have decided on the Pantone collection of colors.

  • Rita Groves Schultz

Hi...I just ordered my materials in the "Original" palette. Love the pattern!

  • PJ Osterberger

I'm getting back into crocheting, knitting, and smocking as I see retirement in the near future (yay!). I'm looking forward to this project and the instruction. I picked the "Kristy" for some bright colors.

  • Tamara Windham

I'm excited too. I am going to pick my own colors.

  • Mary Stevens

If I order the Pantone colors, which order should we use them?

  • Ray

I've been knitting and crocheting for many years, but this poncho looks like something easy and fun that won't require too much attention. I'm using worsted cotton yarn from my stash in olive, magenta, periwinkle, royal, and cream.

Hi! I bought the yarn in a french shop as I live in France. I love the original pattern and managed to get quite the same colors except for Cafe au lait I changed to a soft pink called Powder. The yarn quality seems to be similar. It's my first CAL and I'm very excited to join in :)

  • Janice

okay, I'm in. I dubbed this year, the year for me. I've already made (or finished) some projects for me, and I think this one is going to be one for me, as well. BUT, as I looked at the yarn, I did think, I do have yarn at home, and I was trying to figure what I would need to do to make it a little more ample for "plus" -- so I will sub in some yarn that has been stashed away for a project that I haven't seemed to be able to get to in the last five years. Time to use that yarn for something for me! (plus, I made a promise to myself not to buy stuff during Lent, and I intend to keep it!)

  • Kathryn Smith

I have never done a CAL. I like this pattern so I thought I'd do this one. I have a short term memory problem so I will possibly forget how to get into the CAL online. Is there a way I can get reminders to check in?

  • Sandy Paananen

I would love to crochet this poncho. I've been crocheting on and off for 3 decades however, I get lost reading patterns and counting rows and haven't done any special stitches. This pattern says easy, but is this based on construction more than instruction and stitches used? I am self taught and have learned from watching videos. Do you have any tips on following a pattern?

  • Ligia Franco

Hi, do you have a picture of the Kristy? and is the yarn machine washable?
