A Spoolie Flower Bookmark

Spoolie Makes Her Mark:
A Flower Bookmark

by Noreen Crone-Findlay (c)

I absolutely love bookmarks.

I can never have enough of them,
because I use them in my journals and sketchbooks,
as well as in favorite books.

And, I love flowers.
I NEED flowers!
Especially since we are having one wicked winter this year.

If you need more bookmarks,
or are looking for a great little quick and easy gift,
grab your spoolknitter
and some sock yarn.
(I used Lion Brand's Stripes in Springtime colors-
poifeck for a flower bookmark)

Spool up a length of cord
that is approx. 18 inches long.
I worked from one grey length of yarn
through the pink, past the next grey section,
 through the green
and mostly through the next grey length

Finish off the ends
and wrap one end around one peg.
Start with the end closest to the pink.
(I used one of the Small Wonders spoolies that Jim and I make.
You can see them on our website at:
http://www.crone-findlay.com/ChubbyDollSpoolknittersOrderPage.html

continue wrapping,
going back and forth across the spoolie
until all 5 pegs have spoolie cord around them:

Now, take some yellow yarn
(or, you could use the orange section from the Stripes)
thread it into a darning needle,
and go under 2 petals

go over the last petal,
under the next 2 petals all the way around
until you've gone around the 5 petals
twice.
Tie a tight knot with the yarn ends

Take it off the spoolie

and, if you would like,
stitch a button or charm on it

Trim the ends,
and you've got a wonderfully springtime
bookmark.......

made with love!

Dreaming of flowers.....
hugs all round

Oh - I love bookmarks! Bookmarks are great for all my books and journals too. One thing that I love to do is to take bookmarks with me when I travel...in case I need a little gift for someone. They don't take up any room in a bag - and it is nice to have something handmade to give to someone unexpectedly!

Thanks Noreen - another new bookmark to try...

What a wonderful and cheery thing in the midst of this crappy weather. You could just perk up the whole world with a bouquet of these charming things. Thank you!

What a pleasant break from an unusually dreary Sunday afternoon. Thankyou so much for changing my dreary mood to one of fun. I also love flowers, colour and sunshine.

Thanks for such clear instructions. I was inspired by your flowers to make my own. I used a thicker yarn and threaded skewer through the stem to stick it in a pot. I found myself wanting to make more.

I love your spool knit bookmarks. Can you tell me how to get a spool started and how to load the yarn on it? I used to know how to do it as a young child, but have forgotten how. Thank you very much. God Bless, Mary
