A Spoolknitted Mosquito Finger Puppet

A  Very Silly Holiday Present.....
A  Spooknitted Mosquito

by Noreen Crone-Findlay (c)

Michelle at Knit.1's blog (http://www.knit1mag.com/blog/)
posted a very cute picture of a knitted mosquito toy.

I was inspired!
Normally, I loathe mosquitoes, BUT....
we've had an unbelievably cold, early wickedwinter.
It makes me nostalgic for mosquitoes!

So, of course, I had to spoolknit one......
and crochet one, too
(You can see the instructions for the crocheted mosquito finger puppet over at my other blog:
http://www.hankeringforyarn.com/a-crocheted-mosquito-finger-puppet/

With Lion Brand 'Big' in 'Amazon', and a large spoolknitter
(I used the Lion Brand Super Knitter #679)
Work 8 rounds on all 4 pegs.
Then, lift 2 of the loops over onto the adjacent pegs:

work 1 row on just 2 pegs
and then lift one loop over onto the other peg.
Lift the lower loop over the upper loop.
Now, work 3 st on just one peg.
Cut the yarn, leaving a  12 inch tail.
Pull the end through the last loop on the peg,
and wrap the tail end around the stinger.
Wrap around the stinger a couple of times where it joins the face.
Stitch over the wraps to anchor them. Take the ends inside the head.

Stitch the starting tail around the stitches of the first round
to anchor them and keep it open.

Stitch 2 small white buttons on for eyes, making an 'x' .

Legs: Cut 3 pieces of the body color yarn that are 10 inches long.
Thread one into a darning needle and take it through the under body.
Tie a knot to shape each foot.
Repeat with the other 2 leg strands.

Wings: Cut an 18 inch long piece of 'Great Grape' and tie it in a knot.
Tie the middle of the loop to form a figure '8'.
Tie again, to shape the 2 upper wings and 2 lower wings.
Stitch to the Mosquito's back.

And now, you can show your friends
 just how big
mosquitoes are in your neck of the woods!

May everything that you celebrate be imbued with peace and joy,
and may this upcoming year be one of growing peace and wellness!
hugs and blessings,
Noreen

Good grief Noreen. Only you could think up something as silly as a mosquitoe. Lucky it is the silly season, and how much better to have a spoolie one than a real one. I am very allergic to their bites.

Hi, Noreen

You Mosquitoe Finger Puppet is really funny. I have a silly fantasy about mosquitoes. I wish they were the color your puppet is and they drank softdrinks or water and didn't bother anyone. What was god thinking?
