Walking in Beauty........
A Spoolie Skinny Scarf to celebrate Autumn~!(c)

The
other day, a friend sent me photos of the glorious leaves in her
garden.
The leaves in our part of the world
have mostly kissed the branches farewell
and are crunching under foot.

They are, in their dying breath, exuding that earthy scent that says good-bye to scent for now....

As
we move through autumn and into a winter world, there are many
sensations, but, here, outside:
In Winter,
smell lays dormant
..... nature curls into herself and withdraws her olfactory works for a few months.
(Winter does smell wonderful inside the house, though!)
Here, in winter, ~outside~, other sensations take over.
There is the sound of snow falling:
Yes, sometimes you can hear it!
And the sounds of crackling crusty crunching of boot on snow,
the unwelcome, stomach clenching, hiss of slippery ice.....
And the other sensations:
The bite of the cold wind,
the kiss of the reflected sun on the snow.....
the contraction of muscles shuddering against the cold.....
THEN..... the sweet release
as we relax into the cosiness
of warm shawls, sweaters, hats, socks........
ahhhhhhhhh...... and a hot cup of tea:
Oh Bliss!
For years, I have cringed at the onset of winter.....
the sheer terror of driving and walking on icy roads,
and the tedium of having to put on layers and layers of clothes to go outside,
and the shortening of the days....... sigh.
But, this year,
I have decided
that this is the year
to stop fussing
and making myself miserable about winter.
The leaves are down?
I will admire the architecture of the bare branches of the trees.
The glorious blaze of color is retreating into greys and browns?
I see the subtlety of the soft quiet colors.
And, I will create a blaze of color for myself!
Cold?
That's what yarn is for!
To wrap the cold winter away.
Besides,
I am committed to opening myself,
and other people up to creativity.
" Creativity",
one of my heros,
Einstein,

is purported to have said,
"means looking at the world and seeing it in new ways".
Time to get creative!

You will need:
Yarn:
2 balls of Lion Brand Fun Fetti #254 Rainbow Black 1 3/4 oz (50 gm) 46 yd (42 m) 89% polyester 11% nylon
A large spool knitter and loop lifter
A large crochet hook: I used a P-15/11.50 mm hook
A toothpick or craft or coffee stir stick to hold your ball of spoolie cord together while spooling.

To
make the Spoolie Skinny Scarf for Celebrating Autumn:
Just start spooling,
and don't stop until you have spooled up both balls.
You'll need to roll your spoolie cord into a ball,
to keep it from tangling and being annoying.
Push a stick into the ball of cord to hold it together.
When you have spoolknitted both balls of yarn
(tie the second one to the first one when you get to the end of the first)
treat the spoolie cord as if it was a strand of thread
and make a slip knot.
Then with the crochet hook or your fingers,
chain loosely
to the end of the spoolie cord.
Thread the yarn end into a darning needle,
take a couple of stitches into
the loop at each end of the scarf
........... and that's it!

Mores pictures to explain.....

Make an 'e'

fold it over

pull the middle up and through to make the first knot

tighten it up and adjust...

then keep on reaching through and pulling up the cord.......

Enjoy
autumn!
