WHAT'S NEW?

May 2000

Thank you to all of you who responded to our April request for news about you and the ways you use Lion Brand yarn.

We heard about many special projects, and there is one in particular that we would like to share with you.

Crystal McLean of Griffin, Georgia, wrote to tell us about a wonderful vest she created out of Lion Brand Wool-Ease for her boss, Derrell Jeffcoat, principal of the Crescent Elementary School in Griffin. An avid duck hunter, Mr. Jeffcoat requested a camouflage vest with side entry pockets, a collar, and a pocket for his duck call.

Click here to see a photo of the vest by itself..  Ms. McLean combined three different patterns, two from Lion Brand: #764A Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Country Classic Sweater Jacket and the Unisex Knitted Vest pattern that appears on some Wool-Ease Sportweight labels. The camouflage color is created by a clever mix of Wool-Ease Color Nos. 177 Loden and 232 Woods Print. As if that weren’t enough, to make the vest even more special and unique, Mr. Jeffcoat made his own buttons from deer antler sliced thin with a band saw!!

Ms. McLean, who is school secretary at Crescent Elementary, is 42 years old, and she tells us she has been knitting since she was about seven: “My first small project was a garter stitch headband and was completed on pencils because I had no knitting needles. That is a fond memory.”

Her next project is another vest for Mr. Jeffcoat (unfortunately, she did not write the original pattern down). The new vest will be in camel and variegated brown colors, with a camouflage pattern that he will design. She writes, “I have in mind to use Country Print (231) and Caramel (124), but am still in the planning stages. After all, duck season is months away.”

Visit “What’s New?” in June for a selection of other ways people are using Lion Brand yarns.

WHAT’S NEW ON THE WEBSITE

« We are especially excited to present you with a chart giving equivalents of American, English, and Metric sizes for knitting needles and crochet hooks. In addition, we list formulas for converting between American and Metric measurements. We hope you will find this information a practical and useful addition to our website.
