What's New?  March, 2001

Lion Brand’s Annual Fashion Show

What better way to march into a new year or a new season than to think: “Fashion Forward”? That was the theme of Lion Brand’s sixth annual fashion show, emceed by celebrity Vanna White, at the January Hobby Industries of America (HIA) Show.

As Lion Brand’s senior vice president and COO, David Blumenthal, likes to say: “With Lion Brand ‘the fashion is in the yarn’”. Fashion was evident everywhere in this year’s show, from colorful, granny square updates to examples of trios of identical styles given totally different looks by different textures and colors of yarn. A special feature of the show was the introduction of Vanna’s daughter, Giovanna, who modeled her own little Lion Brand sweater in one of the segments. In addition the show marked the first presentation of new Wool-Ease Chunky (available soon--details in next month’s “What’s New?”) and.

Vanna, an avid crocheter, spoke with excitement about the styles shown: “All this yarn…our grandmothers did it, out great-grandmothers did it-it’s been around forever-but it’s so wonderful that we can really have all these fashions out of yarn today from Lion Brand!”

The designs at this year’s show were created to be not just beautiful but-equally important-to be make-able. Nancy J. Thomas, new Editorial Director of Lion Brand’s Design Department, called the fashions “reality-based runway”. See for yourself: patterns for Microspun ripple shawls from the fashion show, one knit and one crochet, can now be downloaded free from Lion Brand’s on-line pattern library. All the fashion show's fabulous designs were created under the direction of Lion Brand's Design Editor, Adina Klein. Additional patterns from the show will be appearing in upcoming publications and leaflets; details are not yet available.
